Everywhere and in every sphere
Our missionaries carry the torch of the good news of Christ and demonstrate their faith in diverse communities around the world. Together, we reach hearts, bring light and extend a helping hand to the fallen, making a positive impact on countless lives.
The evangelical church Assembly of God World Vision began in 1988, with a small group of brothers who, under the leadership of the young Rubens Porphirio (in memory), met in an attic in the city of Port Chester NY. The young leader worked as a musician at the American Assembly of God church and, in contact with Pastor Weslley Matt, received the temple of the American Assembly of God church so that the Brazilian brothers could congregate. Thus the beginning of the Assembly of God World Vision Ministry (AGWV). With a vision of expansion in 1998, and with the growth of a group of brothers who met at home, the first congregation of the ministry was opened in the city of Mount Vernon, New York. In 2000, a temple was acquired in the city of Bridgeport, creating another beautiful congregation in the state of Connecticut. With time and the growth of the churches, Pastor Rubens Porphirio passed the leadership of the ministry to the current president Pastor Nilson Teixeira. And with the new administration, a board was also formed and the AGWV statute was created. In 2012, the ministry expanded to Brazil, mainly in the Minas Gerais region and today it has 6 congregations and 3 preaching points. In February 2014, another congregation was opened in the USA, in the state of North Carolina, continuing the work that was carried out in the homes of brothers in that state. In September 2014, the ministry acquired another building in the city of Port Chester, New York, this building being the ministry’s headquarters. Also together with Pastor Otávio Marques, the work of transcultural missions over 20 years was established in the city of Guinea Bissau, Senegal, on the African continent, with the construction of a missionary base, temple, clinic and professional training center. Today the World Vision Ministry is made up of 1,389 members and congregants, including 455 men, 548 women, 251 young people, 236 children, 22 pastors, 8 pastors, 5 evangelists, 12 elders, 74 deacons and 50 cooperators. This month we turn 35 years old.
We are a Pentecostal Church, firmly founded on the belief that the Bible is the word of God and that Jesus is the only way to salvation. Deeply touched by the transforming power of Christ, we nurture a passionate conversion, valuing communion in the local church. Our vision, reflected in the name of the church, is to take the message of the good news of Christ to all the world. We want to impact lives and witness transformations and miracles in the people we reach. Uniting faith and love, we seek to establish the kingdom of God throughout the earth, with the inscription that Jesus still heals, saves and transforms today. This is the essence of our church, believe in Jesus, love God and love people.
